I attended the 2nd annual Senior Health & Safety Fair on May 12, 2018. I was there to promote consumer protection rights for seniors. Under Idaho’s Consumer Protection Act, senior are given enhanced protections. Specifically, the law states that seniors to suffer certain damages as the result of consumer protection violations are entitled to statutory damages of $15,000 or three-times the actual damages (whichever is greater) in addition to any other damages. This is an important law to designed to deter people from taking advantage of seniors in our community.
